Currant

Currant (Ribes Latin) is a genus of berries. There fruit, in the form of clusters, grows on a large bush with smooth branches. The berries on the cluster have the size of a pea. According to different color of the fruit, there are white, red and black currant cultivars and species. Of the greatest importance for fruit production are the black and red currants. These two types of currant grow in the form of bushes up to 1m in height. They can be grown in all fruit growing regions of Serbia, they are most suited for near mountain areas. Currants can be grown by the system: shrub, hedge, espalier and stem plants. The fruit has great nutritional, medicinal and technological value. It contains a lot of vitamin C, proteins, minerals and other important ingredients. It is used fresh, as well as for making many other products. Currant fruit has healing capabilities and is used for the stabilization of high blood pressure, as well as anemia.
