Canna
Canna is the only genus is the family of Cannaceae. This flower origins from tropical and subtropical regions of America, but they also grow in India. It takes its name from the Greek word Canna which means pipe or cylinder. It refers to the shape of this plant’s stem. The plant grows from the rhizome, 60-150 centimeters in height, depending on the genus. Leaves are big, up to 20 centimeters wide, and half a meter long. It flourishes richly and intensely, flowers are asymmetric, they are red, yellow, orange, or pink in color. Canna is mostly planted on city squares, boulevards, along the roads, but you can also plant them in gardens, flowerpots or on balconies. They should be planted in April and May, and they can bloom all the way till the late autumn. They require lots of sunlight and water, and fertilized soil. The space between two stalks should be 40-50 centimeters (for the short genera) or 60-70 centimeters (for the tall ones).
